As far as we know, ours is the only McLaren 600LT you can rent in Washington — and the only LT of any kind. Search for a McLaren rental in Seattle and you get national booking sites, or companies in Washington DC and New York quoting a car three time zones away. So we bought one and put it in Kent.
It is a 600LT Spider in MSO Borealis, and it is $895 a day with 150 miles included. As far as we can tell, that makes it the cheapest McLaren 600LT rental in America. This is the exotic for the money, and we mean that literally.
McLaren Rental in Seattle: The Short Version
This is the car people photograph before they drive it. That is not a criticism — it is genuinely theatrical in a way none of our Porsches are, and pretending otherwise would be silly.
We bought it because our customers kept asking the same question. People would book a GT4 RS, love it, and then say some version of “what else is out there?” Everything we owned was a Porsche, and the honest answer to that question is not another Porsche. It is something built on a completely different set of ideas.
Three Things You Notice in the First Ten Minutes
01The doors go up
They are dihedral, which means they swing forward and upward rather than out. Practically, it means you cannot get in or out of this car anywhere without somebody watching.
It also means you need to think about where you park. A tight garage space is fine because the doors go up rather than sideways, but a low ceiling is not. We will walk you through it at handover.
02The P1 carbon seats
Ours has the P1 carbon seats — the same design McLaren fitted to the P1 hypercar. They weigh a fraction of a normal seat and hold you like a race car, because that is essentially what they are. You sit low, hip-point near the floor, and the car wraps around you rather than sitting under you.
Worth knowing before you book: they are firm and they are narrow. Brilliant for a spirited three hours. Less forgiving than a Targa if you were planning a full day of freeway.
03MSO Borealis changes color
MSO Borealis reads as flat black in a parking garage or under Seattle cloud. Every photo on this page was shot indoors, which is why it looks black in all of them. Put it in direct sun and it comes alive — deep green, purple and claret coming up through the flake depending on where you stand.
Photographers lose their minds over it. If you are booking a car for a shoot, this is the one, and it is the reason we tell people to plan around the weather rather than in spite of it.
What Borealis Actually Does in Seattle Light
A color-shift paint sounds like a gimmick until you see one behave. Ours does three fairly distinct things depending on where you are standing and what the sky is doing.
- Overcast, or indoors — reads black. Most people assume it is black until it moves.
- Direct sun — green and purple come up through the flake, strongest along the shoulders and the rear haunches.
- Low evening light — the claret tone shows, which is the one nobody expects and the one that photographs best.
MSO is McLaren Special Operations, the division that builds one-off and limited finishes for customers who ask for something nobody else has. Borealis is one of theirs, and it is not a color you will see twice in this city.
This One Is Street Only
Unlike our Porsches, the McLaren does not run in our track program at Pacific Raceways. If a racetrack is what you are after, the GT3 track day and the GT4 clinics are where to look. The McLaren is for roads, evenings and cameras.

The exhaust is the part that surprises people, and it is worth being clear that it is factory. This is not something a previous owner bolted on. McLaren fits the 600LT with a lightweight titanium system as standard and runs the pipes up and out of the top of the engine bay instead of through the back bumper, so the noise arrives from behind your shoulders. With the roof down it is not subtle, and it was never meant to be.

We did not price it low as a gimmick. We priced it where it sits in our own lineup, and in our lineup a 600LT is a mid-range car. That is a strange thing to be able to say, and it is only true because of what else is parked next to it.

Who Should Actually Book It
Being honest about this is more useful than pretending every car suits everybody.
Book the McLaren if the occasion is the point. A birthday, an anniversary, a proposal, a photoshoot, an evening where the whole idea is that people look. Nothing else we own competes with it on arrival.
Book something else for a long day of driving. The seats are firm, the car is loud, and the 911 Carrera at $495 will leave you fresher after four hours on Highway 2. That is not a knock on the McLaren. It is a different tool.
Book it for a wedding. We did not expect this one and it has become the most common request. The doors open upward in front of a venue, the roof drops in fifteen seconds for photos, and the paint does something different in every frame depending on where the sun is. Our Porsche Targa is still the classic wedding car, but the McLaren is the one that ends up on everyone’s phone.
Book it if you actually want to drive. Underneath the theater this is a genuine driver’s car. The LT badge exists because McLaren stripped weight out, stiffened it up and built it around a circuit, and you feel that in the first corner. It is sharper and more alert than the numbers suggest.
Book it if you have driven our Porsches and want something else entirely. Turbocharged instead of naturally aspirated, carbon tub instead of a metal shell, doors that go up. It is not a faster Porsche, it is a different species.
Before You Drive It: The Practical Bits
Nobody enjoys learning these on the day, so here they are up front.
It is low. Steep driveways, aggressive speed bumps and the ramp into a parking garage all need a slow, angled approach. Seattle has plenty of all three. We cover exactly how to take them during the walkthrough, and it becomes second nature within an hour.
The doors need headroom, not elbow room. Dihedral doors are brilliant in a tight parking spot because nothing swings sideways. They are a problem under a low ceiling or a garage door. Check above you before you pull the handle.
You will be looked at, constantly. Phones come out at every light. People will ask you questions at gas stations. If that sounds exhausting rather than fun, the Cayman GT4 gets you a brilliant drive with a fraction of the attention.
Plan where you park it. Not because anything has ever happened, but because a car like this is easier to enjoy when you can see it from the table. Valet is usually delighted to put it out front.
None of that is a warning. It is the difference between a good day and a slightly stressful one, and it takes two minutes to get right.
