Exotic Car Rental Insurance: What Your Policy Actually Covers

Exotic Car Rental Insurance: What Your Policy Actually Covers

Exotic car rental insurance is the part of the process people worry about most, and it’s the part almost nobody explains properly. You want to rent a Porsche for the weekend. You have car insurance. Does that actually cover you?

Usually yes, and exotic car rental insurance rarely means buying anything new. But it depends on who you’re insured with — which is why we check it for you instead of leaving you to decode a policy document the night before. Here’s how it actually works.

You rent with your own full-coverage policy. There’s no separate insurance product to buy from us, no daily add-on, and no upsell at the counter. If your policy works, you’re set. If we’re not sure, we find out before you book rather than after.

What Exotic Car Rental Insurance Actually Requires

People use “full coverage” loosely, so let’s be specific. To rent from us you need comprehensive and collision on your own auto policy, not just liability.

Liability covers damage you do to somebody else. Comprehensive and collision cover damage to the car you’re driving — which here is ours. That distinction holds up more bookings than anything else, and it catches people who’ve driven for twenty years without needing to know the difference.

Beyond that, coverage on a car like our 911 GT3 can work differently than coverage on a daily driver. It varies by carrier and by policy. That’s not something you need to sort out yourself — send us your details and we’ll confirm it before you book.

Exotic Car Rental Insurance: Carriers We Work With

We know these carriers cover our cars. If you’re insured with one of them, you’re in good shape and the process is usually quick:

Carriers we see work smoothly

Listed alphabetically. If yours is here, you can almost certainly rent with us.

  • Allstate
  • Amica
  • Liberty Mutual
  • Mutual of Enumclaw
  • Nationwide
  • PEMCO
  • Progressive
  • Safeco
  • State Farm
  • Travelers
  • USAA

You’ll notice a couple of names aren’t on there. If yours isn’t listed, reach out and we’ll double-check it for you.

Don’t see your carrier?

That list isn’t a rejection list. Plenty of policies outside it work perfectly well — send us your details and we’ll check before you commit to anything. It costs you nothing.

What About Credit Card Coverage?

A lot of premium cards include a rental benefit, and depending on the card and the vehicle it may apply here. If you carry an American Express card or a Chase Sapphire Reserve, get in touch before you book — there are situations where those benefits come into play.

What we’d steer you away from is assuming a card automatically covers a supercar. Benefits vary by card and by vehicle, and the details matter more here than on an economy sedan. One call and we’ll tell you where you stand.

We Handle the Exotic Car Rental Insurance Check

You don’t need to call your agent, request a letter, or decode a declarations page. You send us your policy details when you book, and we confirm the coverage works for the car you picked. If something doesn’t line up, we tell you early and walk you through the options.

We’d rather sort out a problem on a Tuesday than at the curb on a Saturday with someone’s anniversary riding on it.

Why We Bother

Every rental company could hand you a form and make the insurance question your problem. Most do. We already know how each carrier tends to handle a high-value car — you shouldn’t have to learn that to enjoy a weekend in a Huracán.

The Deposit Is Not Insurance

People conflate the two, so worth clearing up. Every rental carries a refundable deposit — $500 on most cars, $1,000 on the GT3, GT4 RS and Huracán. It isn’t coverage and it isn’t a fee — it’s a hold that comes back when the car does, covering small stuff like a fuel top-off or a toll. Actual damage runs through insurance.

Track Days Are Insured Separately

If you’re looking at our track program at Pacific Raceways, none of the above applies. Insurance is included in your track day. Your personal auto policy isn’t involved — no personal policy in America covers a car on a racetrack anyway.

Nothing to arrange, nothing to buy. Novice clinics start at $1,895 in the GT4 and run to $2,795 in the GT4 RS, with experienced lapping from $1,195 an hour, and instruction comes from ProFormance Racing School. Track drivers must be 25 or older, versus 18 and up for street rentals.

What You Need for Exotic Car Rental Insurance

  • A valid driver’s license. Out-of-state is fine.
  • Comprehensive and collision on your own auto policy.
  • Your policy details so we can confirm the coverage works for your car.
  • A refundable deposit of $500 to $1,000 depending on the vehicle.
  • To be 18 or older for street rentals, 25 for track.

Rates run from $495 a day for the Porsche 911 Carrera up to $1,295 for the Huracán, with 150 to 200 miles included depending on the car. Full details are on the fleet page and in our rental FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need special exotic car rental insurance?

No. You rent using your own full-coverage auto policy, meaning comprehensive and collision. There is no separate insurance product to buy from us and no daily add-on. Send us your policy details when you book and we confirm it works for the car you chose.

Which companies work for exotic car rental insurance?

We regularly work with Allstate, Amica, Liberty Mutual, Mutual of Enumclaw, Nationwide, PEMCO, Progressive, Safeco, State Farm, Travelers and USAA. That list isn’t exhaustive — if your carrier isn’t on it, call us at 253-553-7607 and we’ll check your policy for you.

Does liability-only insurance work?

No. Liability covers damage you cause to other people and property, not damage to the vehicle you’re driving. You need comprehensive and collision coverage on your own policy to rent an exotic car from us.

Will my credit card cover an exotic car rental?

It may, depending on the card. If you carry an American Express card or a Chase Sapphire Reserve, contact us before booking and we’ll help you understand whether card benefits apply to your rental. Don’t assume a card automatically covers a supercar — the terms differ from a standard rental.

Is the security deposit the same as insurance?

No. The deposit is a refundable hold of $500 to $1,000 depending on the vehicle, returned when the car comes back. It covers small items like fuel or tolls. Actual damage is handled through insurance.

Is insurance included for track days?

Yes. Insurance is included in every track day at Pacific Raceways, completely separate from street rentals. There’s nothing for you to arrange or buy, and your personal auto policy isn’t involved. Track drivers must be 25 or older.
